Tearjerker Reads

(Well, hindi naman talaga ako lumuha pero naantig talaga ako to the point na I had to stop what I was reading dahil naapektuhan talaga ako.)

Noli Me Tangere, Barilan sa Lawa Chapter. Though a voracious reader, wala talaga akong tiyagang magbasa ng mga mahahabang nobela. But Noli, ah, that’s a different thing. I found myself reading it kahit hindi pa required ‘yung ilang chapters. Tapos I remember I was reading the Chapter on Barilan sa Lawa at home while lying down on a sofa.

Reader’s Digest, Story of Korean Families. For as far as I can remember nagbabasa na’ko ng Reader’s Digest. As in ang ads ‘yung Toyotal Corolla na may dalawang bilog na headlights endorsed by Ryan Cayabyab na naka-bell bottoms at afro! Totoo ‘to!

Anyway, there was this story about families separated when Korea divided into North and South. Meron akong naalalalang passage when a young boy saw his parents and siblings sail away to Pyongyang and that was the last time he ever saw them again. Pagkabasa ko na “last time he ever saw them again,” I just had to stop reading for a while…Pero may happy ending naman, na-reunite sila nu’ng matandang-matandan na ‘yung magkakapatid.

Reader’s Digest, Story of a Board Game Inventor. Para siyang game where you pick a card and you have to answer the personal question written. Anecdote ng inventor, he played the game with rich neighbors tapos ang nabunot ng question ng kanyang perfect neighbor is “What makes you sad?” or something to that effect. And they thought she would have a hard time thinking of something because she’s beautiful, rich, smart. When she was still a young girl her mother deemed her too old for kisses. So what she did was everytime her mom would leave, she would dish out from the trash bin the tissue with which her mom blotted her lipstick and she would kiss that ‘till it’s worn out. O, ‘di ba?
